Ryan Perry was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 24 years before retiring in September, 2020. He has served in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Balkans and many domestic operations. Ryan began wood working as a hobby and was quite successful selling his creations to fellow service members and received numerous commissions from within the Military. In 2008, Ryan was injured while on tour in Afghanistan and uses art not only as enjoyment but as a relief to stress. He enjoys the physical outlet of working with rough stone as the precision to detail the finishing process takes.
In 2015, Ryan was introduced to local artist, Ted Griffiths, who began mentoring him in working with soapstone. He is fortunate to have a workshop and studio located at his home. Ryan has created a number of stone works that are in homes both nationally and internationally. Currently Ryan’s stone carvings can be found in galleries in Alberta, Canada.
